The difficult thing isn't getting Kenneth Ferguson to talk about Dixie Chopper. The tough thing is getting him to stop.
During the recent GIE Expo show at Louisville, the Crossville, Tenn., man told all who would listen about his loyalty and love for the World's Fastest Lawn Mower. He even cornered new Dixie Chopper President Gary A. Morgan in the company booth and talked all things Dixie Chopper for easily a half-hour or more.
Ferguson, you see, is the proud owner of a 15-year-old Supreme Mowchine equipped with a 22-horsepower Kohler engine and a 60-inch deck. He mows 16 acres of his own property with it once a week.
"It's all rough," he insists. "None of it is easy (to mow)."
Yet his Dixie Chopper has met every challenge, humming along since Bill Clinton's first term as president. Ferguson has only replaced the belts, a tire or two and a couple of small parts. With quality like that, it's easy to see where his infatuation starts.
Then there is the speed factor.
Ferguson said he used to mow with a 48-inch lawn tractor. It took that old dinosaur about 4.5 hours to mow a three-acre section of his property.
"I do that in 45 minutes now with my Dixie," he says. "So that tells you the story right there."? But Ferguson hasn't been content to appreciate the speed, quality and reliability of Dixie Chopper all on his own. He loves to share his passion.
First he took Danny Simon along on a road trip to see Roger Sullivan at Riverside Mowers in Athens, Ga. Simon brought home two 60-inch, 28-hp Dixie Choppers.
Ferguson wasn't done, however, he invited some Amish landscaper friends along and witnessed them purchasing four Dixie Choppers for their business.
He's helped another pal, Denny Dixon, by creating a set of dual wheels for use on a steep hillside at the Tennessee shopping center Dixon mows with his Dixie.
In all, Ferguson estimates he's probably influenced about 100 Dixie Chopper sales over the past 15 years.
"I did the research on it," he says with Tennessee pride. "It's the best mower on the market."
Ah, another unsolicited testimonial...
