A California woman took home a Dixie Chopper zero-turn lawn mower Wednesday, Jan. 21 when she won the Showcase Showdown on the popular daytime game show 'The Price Is Right.'
A Dixie Chopper Silver Eagle mower (2744 model) was featured in the showcase unveiled at the end of the Jan. 21 program, which was taped on Nov. 11 at CBS Television City in Los Angeles.
The Orange County, Calif., woman -- Mari Scott of Ladera Ranch -- won the showcase, taking home the Dixie Chopper mower along with a hot tub, bedroom furniture and a new mattress. She also won a laptop computer in earning a trip onstage from contestant row.
Her husband Russell Scott, told Dixie Chopper he can't wait to get his hands on the Silver Eagle, although most Orange County lawns are typically tiny by Midwestern standards.
"Our yard is one of the bigger ones in the neighborhood," he said, indicating the lot is still smaller than a quarter of an acre. "I guess we'll end up mowing everyone's yard with it. It ought to be fun."
The Silver Eagle mower the Scotts won is capable of mowing 3.67 acres per hour.
Despite six or seven appearances on 'The Price Is Right,' Jan. 21 was the first time a Dixie Chopper mower has been won by a contestant. In fact, the Silver Eagle was in the prime-time showcase in both April 2007 and May 2008 (and aired in the reruns of those specials that followed) without being won. But all that has been fine with Dixie Chopper officials, who get more bang for their buck every time the donated mower goes back up for bid on the show.
Now in its 37th season, 'The Price Is Right' is the longest-running TV game show. Drew Carey, who succeeded legendary host Bob Barker in October 2007, now hosts the show. Bill Cullen originally hosted when "America's Favorite Game Show" debuted in 1956. Barker took over in 1972.
Wednesday's show was the 7,002nd episode of 'The Price Is Right.'
Dixie Chopper's Silver Eagle is one of more than 20 models manufactured by the Putnam County, Ind., company. It features a 27-hp. Generac engine and a 44-inch mowing deck.
And the price?
If you said MSRP $7,200, you're right.
